Sports Illustrated for Kids Vol. 1

reviewed by the Coalition for Quality Children's Media

"Sports as a metaphor" for life approach teaches children about responsibility, self-control and the importance of teamwork. Volume one features Grant Hill, Brett Favre and Mia Hamm. Adult comments: A great motivational tool. Presents messages: "hard work equals positive results" and "learn from your mistakes." The "ask the athlete" format makes it real. Provoked interest in athletic careers for both genders. Pace is fast and entertaining. Kids comments: Students were hooked to the entire video: no wiggles, chatting or inappropriate behavior. They truly enjoyed the program! "It's neat that the kids talked to pro's about their games and other things like food and hobbies." It's fun to watch.
